And Warhammer Online isn't going to be $50? Plus add up all the fees of $15 per month.

I can bet a lot of the same people that said AoC was the next great game are the same ones jumping on the WAR bandwagon. You will never know how successful an MMO will be until about a year down the road. One million pre-orders? That many beta tested the game and based their orders on that, eh? Didn't think so. The vast majority pre-ordered WAR for the same reason they did AoC and Hellgate(biggest game to open in Korea...lawls): hype. They showed some pretty pics and vids, and everyone ooo!'s and Ahhhh!'s and jumps on the bandwagon. War does have a good pedigree, but following the last few games to fall off the hype train, I'd wait a while before joining up on this one.

The good thing about these games is it makes me appreciate what they have done with GW. I'll probably wait a bit, but if they do what they did with this game, I'll get GW2. Just not on opening day.

Many people pre-ordered war for the beta then canceled their order. The on million doesn't mean jack.

GW2 is still being made, there's no fing way to know if I'll get or not cause I don't know what it's going to be like and I sure as hell don't know what I'll be doing irl a year from now.

Might as well close this and make a gw2 discussion thread, though there probably already is one and this is just a poor excuse for farming +1s.

I'll read reviews and then decide if it's worth the money. I can't even remember how many MMOs have tried and failed over the past few years.

in addition, gw2 will NEVER feel new again. for those of you who have played this game for a long long time since the beginning, how many of you can say that when u play gw2, u wont have alot of ur friends who u met online playing as well? the joy of the original gw was going out and meeting new ppl thru missions (which you coudlnt simply solo wit henchies or heroes) or doing pvp. gw2 is gonna attract mostly veterans of gw1, and that just doesnt excite me very much.

so yeah. hell i can be wrong, if anet manages to bring back the spirit of the very first gw before nightfall came ill defintely buy. at this point, that seems highly unlikely though.

"the game is looking like a generic mmo at this point, with a huge grindy lvl cap (100 or even no cap) "

This is one of the main things that concerns me. From all I've read so far, that's just the direction things seem to be going - another run-of-the-mill mmo game, nothing along continuing the uniquness of GW1. Makes me sad. But all in all, I intend to wait and make a final desicion once I actually see it.

Based on the information we currently have for GW2, and where my life is at right now, I don't foresee myself getting the game.

The statement that almost the whole game can be completed solo is a huge turn-off. Age of Conan was the same way, and it was boring as all hell. You didn't need to play with anyone else to level up and beat the game. At least with GW1, you could outfit heroes with skill bars, or choose henchies to best complement your builds & strategies.

I also enjoyed the level cap in GW1. Even when you hit level 20, there was more to do. Some people really enjoy pointlessly grinding levels - most of those folk have probably played and enjoyed WoW.

The game looks like it's setting itself up to be a free version of WoW with some slightly better features, and to draw the monthly subscribers of other games to this game. Perhaps aNet is losing sight of what it stood for to better fill their own pockets. Sell-outs! I'll still keep an eye out, though. If the reviews are exceptional, I might consider it.

I'll watch the reviews before I get it and see how much of the community goes over to GW2. However at this point in time, I'd say no and I'm more inclined to get D3 and/or Starcraft 2...

war open beta starts the 7th of september, with live game headstart the 14th.

i have already more or less stoped playing gw's and with anets lack of support during the "dieing" days of gw's (since they took away andrew partick and co.) im defenatly not going to buy gw's2 untill it gets to what gw's 1 cost me (£10) meaning after the 1st year, and then tbh i will prolly be so into war that i just wont bother.

yea i would rather pay £60 for the war ce preorder + £8.99 a month, so over 1 year the game will have cost me. £158.89 = £60 + (£8.99x11) (you get 1 month free) and then as soon as d3 comes out i'll just play both . but no never ever buying another anet /ncsoft game.

IF I CAN GRIND A LOT OF CHARR YES!

But seriously. If ANet actually works on the competitive side of the game, makes it accessible to third party tournaments, and actually do some good, then it will be something to look forward to. Once I was done with GW's pve, it was pvp that kept me playing the game.

So far, I'm leaning towards a "no" but I would be willing to try the game out before I pass a final judgment.

Maybe GW2, depends on what GW2 turns out to be, whether it is the sort of game that will be fun for me.

I was away from GW for a year. Came back and it is fun again. Relaxation, fun, the only reasons I play anything.

With such tight lips on what is even being done with GW2 now, I'm not sure I even care anymore. Beta was targeted for summer of 08, and while I totally understand the pushback (really, what public beta ever is released on time?), what I don't understand is why there is such a lack of updated news. I know nothing more about GW2 today than I did when it was announced.

The tight lips combined with a lot of design changes that moved GW away from the originality it once had make me wary about GW2. At the moment I think I will give it a try, but it's going to take a lot of fixing of current mechanics to win me over.

Once GW2 comes out, I'm getting it. No matter what people say. I want to try it out for myself. I'm sure Anet learned from their mistakes and are making things in GW2 x10 better. I really want to try to pvp of GW2 also.
If its a waste of $50, oh well. If not, then yay ^^

I'm prolly gonna abandon GW, since all my friends are going to be moving onto GW2

Don't think I could say it better. There are dozens of games out there where solo is everything, I enjoyed and still am happy with the ability to personalize your team to the extent that you can in GW, and where victory doesn't reside in whats on your bar. Personalizing 4 bars and picking 4 more preset ones to give yourself a unique approach is probably the main reason I made it through vanquishing.

The level cap made it to where your ingenuity with builds/skill with using them made you good at the game, not the fact that you grinded to level 70 or w/e.

As Jenn says, Arenanet looks to be demonstrating again that all they care about is money from what has been released of gw2, and as such, I don't see myself wasting more time/money on their future products. If the game comes out and actually is worth a crap, I'll probably buy it, knowing that i can dump it and not worry about subscriptions.

And finally, when it comes out in 2 years, I likely will have more/better commitments of my time than to a video game. Already have been spending more time on other and better things than gw, and it definitly is for the better.

Remember people, Real life > video games.

I just moved on to Diablo 2 (or should I say, moved back, as I haven't played it in years). I have to say, compared to D2, GW2 would most likely be a downgrade
